On October 10, 2018, the stock price of China-based internet technology and cultural enterprise Tencent Holdings Limited (Tencent) tumbled by nearly 40% on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. This was the ninth straight day the stock had fallen, marking the company’s worst run since its 2004 listing. The market value of Tencent had hit a peak of US$578 billion in January 2018, but it fell by over US$200 billion in 2018, more than that of any other company worldwide.
